Finnegan (formerly Zeus)

When Finnegan (formerly know as Zeus) first came to live with us I was amazed by how mellow he was for such a young dog, not quite 2 years old at the time, it had been a long time since we had had a younger boxer in the house so I was pleasantly surprised.  Well let me tell you he is no longer the mellow dog he had us fooled into thinking that he was.  After about 6 weeks he started to come out of his shell and now over 2 years later there are two things that make up Finnegan’s Day – playing and snuggling.  He would play 24 x 7 if someone would play with him and he is also happy enough entertaining himself with his favorite squeaky soccer ball when everyone else is tired of playing, and then when he has had enough of that he wants to be in your lap.

You could never be sad or angry for long with a dog like Finnegan in the house because he is always either doing something so silly you have to laugh at him or so cute that you have to smile and give him a big kiss.

Finnegan has a huge personality; he is goof, silly and so loving and affectionate.  He is now 4 years old going on 6 months old.  His boxer sister Nessa who is a year younger thinks he is nuts, they love to chase each other in the yard and wrestle in the house but after 10 – 15 minutes Nessa has had enough, I think Finnegan being 20 lbs heavier gets too much for her sometimes because he loves to play rough.

Finnegan is such an athlete; I often wish I had his metabolism because no matter how much he eats he never gets fat and just turns it in muscle.  He loves to go running in the woods with us or even mountain biking, he could go for hours and still won’t be tired by the time we get home he is ready for more play!! Nothing wears him out.

He is definitely the worlds best snuggler, he plonks himself in the funniest places just so as he can be in your lap or at least resting against you. Or else he will settle for a hug with his front legs around your waist and his head in your lap but with his back legs on the ground – he will even fall asleep in that position.  Our fist boxer was affectionate but nothing compares to Finnegan, the first day he came home with me he crawled into my lap all 70 lbs of him he put his head on my chest and fell fast asleep, I must have sat there for a good half an hour just watching him sleep and taking in every detail about him. He has the softest white fur and he always smells good not matter what, I knew at that moment he was a keeper and would not be leaving our home.

We have done several levels of Obedience Training and he also passed his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Test back in November 2003.  We even gave Agility a try and although he has the physical ability to be great at it he hates the structured environment of the class room so we gave that up and he just does his own form of agility running in the woods J
